LOVE IS FAITHFUL

God’s heart cannot be hemmed in
Oh, that I could experience it all day
But the ruler of this world pours acid
Aiming at our central core
For Satan wants to destroy the beauty
Flowing within us
That love planted by our Creator
Instilled with joy
Nurtured by our heart connection with Him

Hurts and distractions bombard us somedays
Causing some to stray from our mission
To love one another
As He has loved us

Isolated
Fear imprisons the hopeless
Battered souls
Blown near the edge of the abyss
Craving love lost from sight

A faithful, caring Christian
Snatches this hopeless one
Worn from the struggle with Satan

Carrying him with strength
Gained by Jesus’ victory over sin and death
To a meadow dotted with white lilies
Where only beauty abides
This deprived, beloved soul
Catches a glimpse of Jesus
Not far off

Healed, whole, and beautiful
The rescued owns a jubilant heart
As Jesus takes his hand
Renewed by the Savior’s love
He dances with Jesus’ heart
Love entwined with love
Forever trusting in God’s mercy
And faithfulness

THE GREATEST GIFT

Why choose death
When you can turn
To the Lord of life
And live

Sin brings destruction
Satan controls
The Lord of life gave His life
So you can live with Him
Forever
Content, saturated with love
Needing nothing else but His approval
Never to flounder again on your own
Freed from sin
Knowing He is the First and Last
Our eternal Balm
He heals the brokenhearted
Gives hope to the downcast
When all seems lost
Every effort is futile
He gives wings to fly
Soaring to heights above clouds
The surety of a paradise He chose for you
He would give you nothing less
You are the love of His life

He comes as a knight
To the darkness of this world
Gently lifting the willing
On to His white stead
Bound for the New Jerusalem
And eternity
All are chosen, marked for mercy
Few are willing
Join this grateful few
Who give loyalty to Him
When He calls

When He knocks
Open the door
Allowing Him to transform your character
Your holy vessel
Now far from falling
To the wiles of Satan
Freed
No longer captive to sin
But glorious
Glowing with His righteousness
Never to crave worldly ways again
For now you know Him well
Content in His love
Jelled in the conviction, a truth
He died and rose for you
Why choose death
When Jesus Christ is our salvation
Cling to Him
Till He takes you home
To reign with Him forever

THE FOUNTAIN OF LIVING WATER

I suffer as the rest of humankind
Tainted by sin
Now, a constant eruption of misery
Calamity, persecution, pain
Relieved only when we give Jesus our hands
To infuse our wills with strength
And give Him our hearts
To teach us compassion
Our lives, torn and shattered as they feel
Pose a threat to our meaningful existence

There is an avenue to strength
To light
It is a knowledge of God’s love for us
Keeping us uplifted
Amid disabling disasters
Leading us to the fountain
For to those who believe in Him
Jesus offers living water
The Holy Spirit
Allowing our hearts to overflow with love
Granting us power
To assist Him in mission
Bringing other hurting hearts to the Healer
Forgotten souls to the Father
Lost sheep to the Shepherd
Join Jesus now
As we walk through the valley of the shadow of death
He is our hope and salvation

HOPE FOR A FALLEN WORLD

My friend is dying
Lord, what did he ever do
To deserve prolonged suffering?
My mind cannot grasp a reason
Other than our human condition
Deceived by Satan
Into receiving sinful natures
A scourge on humankind
All destined to die
And many, untimely deaths
Like my friend
Young yet,
Formerly bright
Struck down by Huntingtons
A cruel disease

What can help to transform
Our world of destruction?
Hearts bound to Jesus’ heart
Ready to give rather than receive
Functioning as a cradle for grieving
Embracing vulnerable souls
Leading them to the Great Healer

What smooths jagged emotions
Left by a legacy of sin?
Lifts hopes for redemption?

Grace from God
Flowing to sinners
Finding an anchor in faith
In Jesus’ perfect sacrifice

Looking forward
To an everlasting home
Standing in His presence
Casting our crowns at His feet
The Lord of the universe
Our healing balm

RETURN TO GOD

How can she reach golden gate
Lifted up, leading to His throne?
Can she be launched
As a rocket through heavily polluted sky?

Dare she dream fly
As a trumpeter swan
Soaring over waters so expansive
She may not reach shore

As struggling polar bears
Swim expanses
Seeking food
Only to drown

Or does she ride
Aloft cumulus cloud
On warming Spring day
Lingering

Chased by wayward twister
Wrecking homes and insecure lives
Adding more havoc
To nature gone wild

Newlywed couple grieves
Their newborn waiting no longer
To be elected, crowning himself king
Now crushed amid destruction

Lives shattered because of sin
And a nation’s sins
Trading time to heal
For rebellion

America, return to God
Fall on your knees in repentance
Before your Creator
For you have not honored His authority

All Ten Commandments
You’ve thrown down
Trampled on
Disregarded

He will bless you on your return
Carry you on eagle’s wings
Through open golden gate
Before His throne of honor

DISCOVERING THE KING

I am not my own
I was bought with a price
Paid by Jesus on Calvary
He died not that we may sin
As our fallen natures incline us to
Asking for forgiveness
With the insincere hearts we’ve molded
Desiring cleansing
No.
He died that we might be with Him
Forever.
He bids us now draw near to Him
Turn from our sins after seeking His face
Learn humility taught at Calvary
To do the Father’s will
Learn dedication exhibited in His life
To follow, serving Him alone
Know His holiness
Become transformed in His likeness
Testify of Jesus
Drawing souls before His throne
There discovering a King
Who fulfills all our needs
Giving us certain hope of life everlasting
He who conquered sin and death
Through His perfect life and resurrection
Cling to Him
He who comes soon in the glory of a King
To take us home to be with Him forever
Amen.

UNSURPASSED LOVE

Loving Jesus
Scourged and spat upon
Taking my sins upon you
Suffering for me
Even while I preferred to stay in darkness
You hung on the Cross for all mankind
Suffering the crushing weight of sin
While all continued to rebel against You
Not considering the enormity of sin
But You, condemned
By the wrath of the Father against sin
An evil scourge not removed
Except by the sacrifice only You could supply
And the Father, suffering immeasurably
Giving You, His only Son
To suffer such ignominy and pain, loss
The loss of the love of the Father
And a death You feared might be Your end
A grave You couldn’t see beyond

We kneel
Bowing our heads to You
The Lamb of God
Our Redeemer

HE IS FAITHFUL

God promised throughout the Old Testament He would send a Savior who would ultimately crush Satan and free His people from the result of sin — eternal death. With the birth of Jesus Christ this promise began its fulfillment. “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11).

The Bible makes it clear salvation is only through Christ. “That by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:10,12).

If we sin, we can claim God’s promise: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

The cleansing of sin is made possible only by the spilled blood of our Savior in death, a death we deserve. “For the wages of sin is death” (Rom 6:23).

We can come to Jesus in our battle with sin with confidence He relates: “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb 4:14-16).

Jesus reveals God’s plan for those who accept His grace: “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:2,3). What a wonderful promise of hope our Lord extends to us.

In the book of Revelation, the apostle John, detained on the island of Patmos, writes what Jesus Christ reveals to him will occur in the life hereafter: “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things have passed away” (Rev 21:4). What a beautiful promise for those who reciprocate the Lord’s faithfulness.

OVERCOMING THE DEVIL’S WILES

We’re all in this worldly mess together. Evil lurks everywhere. “Your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8).

We all, at times, have thoughts critical of others enter our minds. Further, jealous feelings spring up in our hearts over others possessions or achievements. This is human nature. We easily find the thoughts and feelings too difficult to resist. We dwell on them and own them, thereby sinning. The devil tells us these are little sins; they don’t matter.

The word of God supplies a solution to resisting temptation: “Submit yourselves thereby to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you” (James 4:7,8). Develop a relationship with Jesus and abide in Him daily. He will give you His strength, making it possible for you to obey God’s law, as Jesus, Himself, was able to do perfectly while on earth, being tempted in every manner as we are tempted. When we resist the devil through Christ’s power, the devil flees from us because he knows he has no chance of overwhelming us. Then we can turn those initially critical thoughts to an acceptance that none of us is perfect. Also, we’ll transform the germ of jealous feelings over someone’s possessions into happiness for them and we’ll turn jealous urges over someone’s achievements into admiration of them.

Jesus offers us a promise we can internalize: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Phil 4:13). Many of us underestimate our ability to do what we are called to do by the Lord. That’s because we don’t recognize that the Lord will empower us if we believe in His ability to make marvelous things happen through us. We have to remember that we are His instruments and He is the Provider of success.

To work with the Lord requires a strong prayer life. We need to develop trust in Him to show us the way. He does this one step at a time. This is how God works when He is going to do something great. He doesn’t lay it all out ahead and let us agree or disagree that his plan will work for us, giving us a chance to bail. We need to trust Him one step at a time, in earnest prayer.

To have a relationship with God is imperative if we want to do His will. Only God can enable us to resist temptation. Only He can orchestrate His successes. Also, He is our only Friend who, if we seek Him in earnest prayer, always understands and can comfort.

God loves you. He is longing for you to tap into His strength, wisdom, and unconditional love. He wants you to have a full life. And being so endowed, you’ll be better able to introduce your family, friends, and even enemies to the love of your Lord and Savior.

RESTORED

How did my life get so tilted
A mountain strewn with jagged rocks
Rises before me
Courage I held yesterday shrinks
Receding to a nearby cavern
Likely filled with demons

Alone
My heart in my throat
I anticipate failure
And likely destruction

Where is that firm nugget of hope
I forsook
That certainty of victory
In the struggle with sin

My Lord and my God
I’ve abandoned you
My friend
My lifeline

How could I have forgotten
To grasp Your outstretched hand
Now, uncertain and lost
I hear You calling
Take My hand child
I still love you

As I grasp your nail-pierced hand
I remember
You bought me with Your blood
I embrace Your love
Vow to keep You my constant
Your abode is my sanctuary
Your sacrifice my salvation
