ENTRUSTED TO GOD

I cannot fathom the depth of Your love for me
You’ve always been here, watching over me
You have a plan for me
Even though I’m not sure what it is

Lord, lead me
I am ready to surrender all of myself
Even though I’m weak to follow through
And vulnerable to blows from the enemy
But You strengthen me through Your Word
And Your Spirit dwelling within me

Show me Lord where You want me to serve
Open my eyes to those in need
Let me not discriminate
Bury my arrogance that surfaces at times
A blessing abodes in the humble soul
Help me revamp my priorities
Give me the gift to think first of others
And to not shy away
Help me grow wings as a butterfly
To flutter from person to person
Engaging their beauty
To dance with Your heart
I’ll speak of Jesus’ love
Our only sanctuary when the storm blows in

Hearts connected to Jesus cannot deceive
But speak truth to all
The truth that saves
Let me speak truth
As part of my misssion

DISCOVERING THE KING

I am not my own
I was bought with a price
Paid by Jesus on Calvary
He died not that we may sin
As our fallen natures incline us to
Asking for forgiveness
With the insincere hearts we’ve molded
Desiring cleansing
No.
He died that we might be with Him
Forever.
He bids us now draw near to Him
Turn from our sins after seeking His face
Learn humility taught at Calvary
To do the Father’s will
Learn dedication exhibited in His life
To follow, serving Him alone
Know His holiness
Become transformed in His likeness
Testify of Jesus
Drawing souls before His throne
There discovering a King
Who fulfills all our needs
Giving us certain hope of life everlasting
He who conquered sin and death
Through His perfect life and resurrection
Cling to Him
He who comes soon in the glory of a King
To take us home to be with Him forever
Amen.

CULTIVATING HIS GIFT

For unto us
The Christ Child is born
His peace and love
Enter our hearts
Christ comes not
Just once a year
But every day
Our hearts can accommodate
His love
A miracle of divine origin
Transforming our hearts
Softening hard feelings
And melting hate
Originating acts of kindness
Propelling us
To go out of our way
To serve those less fortunate

His love
Now our constant companion
Not easily uprooted
From our hearts
A new life
Protected by
Our loving maintenance
Of His gift
By our humble acceptance
He is our Creator
Due all attention,
Honor, and worship

LORD OF MY LIFE

Lord, I want to do Your work
But who am I
A sinner, a procrastinator
A halfhearted Christian
One who wants to pick and choose
Her assignments
Who judges the importance
Of the mission
Whose participation hinges
On the chances of success

Lord, let me see
Through Your eyes
A role You’ve planned for me
Before time began
An assignment guided only by Your hand
Requiring no special talent
Asking only faith in Your workings
Abandonment of self

I fold my hands in prayer
Humbling my heart
That I might be
Worthy to serve You
Help me participate
Believing in Your grand design
Not known fully to me now
But to be revealed
After I’ve made You Lord
Of my life
Have fought the good fight
And stand before You
On that sea of glass
In eternity
With You
My Lord and Savior

TRANSFORMED

I pray for humility
Not often sought
On embarking on a journey
To serve and to be taught
Taught by the Lord
Through relationships formed
Gifts from the Lord
I fear, yet rejoice in

How often have I failed
Relinquished yet retained
A sense of self
Where pride remains
Too often have I gained
No truth at all
When turning from the Lord
To set my own course

But as I’m transformed
While answering His call
I can’t but think
His grace saves all

ALL SEEMS LOST

My heart is as stone.
How could I come to this?
I no longer grieve for the sinner,
nor ask God to heal him.
I stand on a pedestal,
Better than most.
Sin has entered my heart
and stayed.
Enough to erupt,
to rebel against God.
I reach out not
as in the days of laughter
when tickled by God’s love,
as light as an angel.

Satan stalks valleys, plateaus,
and mouintain tops
Seeking prey,
Stumbling the weak
and wrapping rope around running legs.

All seems lost
until the Bright Star rises
Steady and strong
Compelling our attention,
Wrapping light around us.
Lifting,
Unbinding
Asking will you come with Me?
Will you stay
with a heart that humbles,
Clearing evil away?
To live for Him
I long for this
A softened heart.
My heart of stone
I cast in the sea.
I take my part
in His kingdom
Reaching, holding,
loving,
praying.
It is His love that humbled my life
working a miracle within,
Creating my heart anew,
Turning my heart toward His.

EMBRACING GOD

A rich, satisfying experience, even in tough times, can be obtained only by making God the center of our lives. You may say, “But I want to be the center of my life.” I have known people who put themselves at the center of their universe. I was one of them. They are, in a word, selfish. Take another look at your heart. Do you want to love, to share, and to bless others? Well, you need to put God first. Only by abiding in Christ, or staying connected to Him, letting Him mold your character to the likeness of His own, can you be equipped to truly love others.

There is no love without sacrifice. Who of us can deny Christ loves us? He gave His life for each of us. He reconciled us to God. While abiding in Christ, He gives us the power to carve out those bad habits and those unloving behaviors and pitch them. Only then will we reflect Him and be a source of blessing to others.

You may wonder, is the act of blessing others, bringing happiness, the true meaning of life? Many philosophers as well as ordinary people have struggled with the meaning of life question. Some say we live to love others, many say we live for pleasure, while others are comfortable without an answer to this question.

God says in His written Word, the Bible, that we live first and foremost to love and obey Him, our Creator. But why love God, some question? The Bible stresses: “Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man” (Ecclesiastes 12:13). Solomon, the God inspired author of this verse, recognized that fearing God means to hold God in awe. Beyond that, to obey His Ten Commandments simply ensures our happiness because it acknowledges that we accept His being in control. He is a benevolent, loving God and He is above all other gods. To think the god of pleasure will bring us happiness is an illusion, because it showers us with only fleeting moments of bliss.

God promises us an eternity with Him if we but follow Him, accepting Christ as our Lord and Savior. We need not, nor cannot earn salvation through good works, although good works go hand-in-hand with an abiding faith in God. Instead, we believe in Christ, our Savior, looking to His perfect life and death. He died as our substitute to satisfy the wages of sin which is death. His Word says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). By repenting of our sins we show we love God enough to have Him reproduce His image in us. We no longer live for self, but for Him.

Christ beckons us: “Come to Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30).

When we follow Christ we are freed from the bondage sin creates. Christ teaches us humility and we no longer feel societal pressure to be the best. We can rest in being precious in His sight and will become all God has planned for us, all the while feeling His loving embrace. This, I think is an admirable goal and at the heart of the meaning of life.
