God could have abandoned us

Left us to die in our sins

Instead He sent Jesus

our precious Savior

Who volunteered to die

in our place

for we are sinners to the core

He could have abandoned us

in Gethsemane

But His love for us

is unsurpassed

He died a cruel death

on the Cross

He would not let us

die in our sins

But woos us to the Cross

where we are convicted of the evilness

 of our sins

and of the power

of sin

to separate us from God

He leads us to repentance

then offers us forgiveness

in His mercy and grace

We worship a living Savior

God raised Him from the dead

Of this we are certain

Remember Thomas, who doubted

Then Jesus asked him

to put His hand in Jesus’ side

and look upon the holes in Jesus’ hands

The apostle became a missionary for Jesus

as did countless followers of Christ

Now, knowing Jesus is the Messiah

we, too, are asked to be missionaries

to spread the Good News

of what Jesus has done

to save us

Let us invite the Holy Spirit

to guide us in all things

Knowing that our loyalty to God

will be tested

before Christ Jesus comes again

I cannot fathom the depth of Your love for me
You’ve always been here, watching over me
You have a plan for me
Even though I’m not sure what it is

Lord, lead me
I am ready to surrender all of myself
Even though I’m weak to follow through
And vulnerable to blows from the enemy
But You strengthen me through Your Word
And Your Spirit dwelling within me

Show me Lord where You want me to serve
Open my eyes to those in need
Let me not discriminate
Bury my arrogance that surfaces at times
A blessing abodes in the humble soul
Help me revamp my priorities
Give me the gift to think first of others
And to not shy away
Help me grow wings as a butterfly
To flutter from person to person
Engaging their beauty
To dance with Your heart
I’ll speak of Jesus’ love
Our only sanctuary when the storm blows in

Hearts connected to Jesus cannot deceive
But speak truth to all
The truth that saves
Let me speak truth
As part of my misssion

I suffer as the rest of humankind
Tainted by sin
Now, a constant eruption of misery
Calamity, persecution, pain
Relieved only when we give Jesus our hands
To infuse our wills with strength
And give Him our hearts
To teach us compassion
Our lives, torn and shattered as they feel
Pose a threat to our meaningful existence

There is an avenue to strength
To light
It is a knowledge of God’s love for us
Keeping us uplifted
Amid disabling disasters
Leading us to the fountain
For to those who believe in Him
Jesus offers living water
The Holy Spirit
Allowing our hearts to overflow with love
Granting us power
To assist Him in mission
Bringing other hurting hearts to the Healer
Forgotten souls to the Father
Lost sheep to the Shepherd
Join Jesus now
As we walk through the valley of the shadow of death
He is our hope and salvation

How do we get to know God? Some people read the Bible to get to know about God and stop there, not reflecting upon those scriptures. Others have occasion to listen to testimonials from individuals to learn about how God works in lives. Many of us listen to sermons by preachers to get a grasp of what God is about and to find out what He expects of us. Some people mistakenly think that through these methods they are getting to know God. All these methods focus on an intellectual knowledge of God and may touch our hearts a bit as well. But is this all God wants of us?

The Triune God of Christianity is a God of relationships. The Father loves the Son, Jesus, who demonstrated His total dependence on the Father through His prayer life while Jesus was on earth. Jesus told His disciples, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” (Jn 14:26). The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit interact and are of one mind.

God longs to have an intimate relationship with each of us. Since God is perfect, there is no one better versed in relationships than He is. God longs to be our best Friend and wants only good for us. “God is love” (1 Jn 4:8). God woos everyone continually. He seeks that love relationship with those He created in His own image.

God seeks love in the form of worship, obedience, and a growing relationship derived from a prayer life with Him. Our relationship with Him serves to guide us in the decisions we face, in our witnessing attempts, and in everything we do.

In order to let Him be our guide, we must totally surrender our lives to Him, making His priorities our priorities. We cannot please Him unless we do this. We maintain the strength to do His work through a daily relationship with Him. Of ourselves we are weak, but united with Him we can do the impossible. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Phil 4:13). Just as Jesus maintained a daily prayer relationship with the Father, giving Him strength to accomplish His mission, so we, too, through daily prayer will find refreshment and strength to do God’s will.

In doing His will we get to know God through our experiences. When we connect our obedience to His will with the richness present in powerful experiences in which He reveals Himself to us, we can be sure God is speaking to us.

Reflecting upon Scripture we read is an excellent way to allow God to speak to us and initiate a conversation with Him later during the day.

Prayer, experiences, and reflecting upon Scripture, then, are ways we can get to know God intimately. All we need to do is open up to Him. His arms are outstretched, ready to receive us and to reveal Himself to us.

— Bible quotations taken from NKJV Bible —

The Lord’s arm reaches out
Refreshing a worn out disciple
Renewing purpose
Reviving a faith rendered dead
Faith slashed by demons
Denied by faithful followers
Faith cast near the pit
Doomed to languish
Tortured by thoughts
Denying the divine
Never sure what is real
Infested by secularism
Torn away from Jesus
With no visible recourse
For healing the human hemorrhage
But a recollection of
Our dying Savior’s words:
Father forgive them
For they know not what they do
The Savior’s arm reaches out
Grace extended to all
Those who betrayed Him
Whether in thought,
Action or word
All humanity invited
To be washed by His blood
The Holy Spirit reaches out
Seeking hearts to free
Hearts now transformed
Kneeling before the Cross
In repentance
Embracing a grace offered to all
Bound now by loyalty
Given to serving
Disciples of the Lord
Linked to constant renewal
Borne of His love
