FULFILLMENT OF GOD’S PROMISE

You are beautiful
For your triumph over death
Your heart has clung
To our Lord and Creator

You’ve run the race
With the end in mind
Reunion with the holy
Ransomed by His sacrifice
A fulfillment of His promise

You will see Him face to face
Kneel and worship
With song and praise
Rising from your lips
In acknowledgement
Of your fervent loyalty

Isn’t this what you want
A deep response to your Creator’s
Beckoning love song
Woven through the hearts of all
As a tapestry made more beautiful
By the Second Coming of
Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ

HOPE FOR A FALLEN WORLD

My friend is dying
Lord, what did he ever do
To deserve prolonged suffering?
My mind cannot grasp a reason
Other than our human condition
Deceived by Satan
Into receiving sinful natures
A scourge on humankind
All destined to die
And many, untimely deaths
Like my friend
Young yet,
Formerly bright
Struck down by Huntingtons
A cruel disease

What can help to transform
Our world of destruction?
Hearts bound to Jesus’ heart
Ready to give rather than receive
Functioning as a cradle for grieving
Embracing vulnerable souls
Leading them to the Great Healer

What smooths jagged emotions
Left by a legacy of sin?
Lifts hopes for redemption?

Grace from God
Flowing to sinners
Finding an anchor in faith
In Jesus’ perfect sacrifice

Looking forward
To an everlasting home
Standing in His presence
Casting our crowns at His feet
The Lord of the universe
Our healing balm

RETURN TO GOD

How can she reach golden gate
Lifted up, leading to His throne?
Can she be launched
As a rocket through heavily polluted sky?

Dare she dream fly
As a trumpeter swan
Soaring over waters so expansive
She may not reach shore

As struggling polar bears
Swim expanses
Seeking food
Only to drown

Or does she ride
Aloft cumulus cloud
On warming Spring day
Lingering

Chased by wayward twister
Wrecking homes and insecure lives
Adding more havoc
To nature gone wild

Newlywed couple grieves
Their newborn waiting no longer
To be elected, crowning himself king
Now crushed amid destruction

Lives shattered because of sin
And a nation’s sins
Trading time to heal
For rebellion

America, return to God
Fall on your knees in repentance
Before your Creator
For you have not honored His authority

All Ten Commandments
You’ve thrown down
Trampled on
Disregarded

He will bless you on your return
Carry you on eagle’s wings
Through open golden gate
Before His throne of honor

DISCOVERING THE KING

I am not my own
I was bought with a price
Paid by Jesus on Calvary
He died not that we may sin
As our fallen natures incline us to
Asking for forgiveness
With the insincere hearts we’ve molded
Desiring cleansing
No.
He died that we might be with Him
Forever.
He bids us now draw near to Him
Turn from our sins after seeking His face
Learn humility taught at Calvary
To do the Father’s will
Learn dedication exhibited in His life
To follow, serving Him alone
Know His holiness
Become transformed in His likeness
Testify of Jesus
Drawing souls before His throne
There discovering a King
Who fulfills all our needs
Giving us certain hope of life everlasting
He who conquered sin and death
Through His perfect life and resurrection
Cling to Him
He who comes soon in the glory of a King
To take us home to be with Him forever
Amen.

PROMISES FROM GOD

I’d like to share with you a few of my favorite Bible promises pertaining to everlasting life for God’s faithful.

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord” (1 Thess 4:16,17).

“And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever” (Dan 12:3).

“Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out” (Rev 3:12).

The Bible is filled with many beautiful promises pertaining to blessings God will bestow on us in our earthly lives, as well. Do you have a favorite promise of God found in the Bible? Feel free to share.

HE IS FAITHFUL

God promised throughout the Old Testament He would send a Savior who would ultimately crush Satan and free His people from the result of sin — eternal death. With the birth of Jesus Christ this promise began its fulfillment. “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11).

The Bible makes it clear salvation is only through Christ. “That by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:10,12).

If we sin, we can claim God’s promise: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

The cleansing of sin is made possible only by the spilled blood of our Savior in death, a death we deserve. “For the wages of sin is death” (Rom 6:23).

We can come to Jesus in our battle with sin with confidence He relates: “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb 4:14-16).

Jesus reveals God’s plan for those who accept His grace: “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:2,3). What a wonderful promise of hope our Lord extends to us.

In the book of Revelation, the apostle John, detained on the island of Patmos, writes what Jesus Christ reveals to him will occur in the life hereafter: “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things have passed away” (Rev 21:4). What a beautiful promise for those who reciprocate the Lord’s faithfulness.

GIVING THANKS IN ILLNESS

On Thanksgiving Day we are grateful for all we have been blessed with. Those of us who are Christians give thanks to the Triune God. We believe God is the source of all blessings.

Many give thanks for their good health. We have all been sick at times, but God is the Great Physician who heals. He has created our bodies with the ability to fight off many illnesses. God has given doctors and other health professionals abilities to diagnose and treat illness. He guides the physician’s mind and the surgeon’s hands. God enables nurses to act as the doctor’s right hand, giving care to heal. Other health professionals work in concert with doctors and nurses, attempting to produce the best outcome. And God Himself can heal those cases resistant to cure, if it be His will.

But how about the sick who’ve been treated and are about to go down to their graves without a medical or miraculous healing. Do they have anything to be grateful for other than the blessings God bestowed on them before they became ill? We must consult the Holy Bible for the answer.

There is a treasure trove of blessings promised to those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, whose works demonstrate their faith, and who have a personal relationship with God. He promises to never abandon us. “For he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Heb. 13:5). He is by your side to comfort you in illness if you reach out to Him. If you’re faithful to God, in death your assurance is sealed. You go down to the grave, knowing Christ will come again to usher you into His everlasing kingdom. “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord” (1 Thess. 4:16,17).

As for the dying who don’t know the Lord, it is never too late. Jesus pardoned the dying thief who acknowledged Him as Lord while on the cross, and on that day, Jesus promised the thief he would see Jesus in heaven.

It is our Christian duty to bring these dying souls to Christ when we visit them. Let your conversation flow from the heart, inspired by the Holy Spirit.

On Thanksgiving Day, as on other days, Christians have faith: “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13). Perhaps our faith in God is what we can be most thankful for.
