WHY ARE YOU HERE

People who give thanks

even through sorrows

and hardship

know the Lord.

Jesus is their constant,

their close Friend.

These self-directed ones

chose to turn to Jesus.

They abide in His love daily,

depend on Him for strength,

for joy, for purpose.

They pray,

knowing their vibrant, glowing

connection with Christ

is special to their Savior.

They’re part of a sphere

of believers

who don’t take God

for granted.

They know their purpose

in this life —

To embrace others

as Jesus embraces them.

To bring their friends,

their loved ones

into the light of loving Jesus,

embracing His love that

cannot die,

and living to please only Him.

Then our reward

if we accept it

is eternal life with Christ

our Savior and best Friend.

In my Christian novel, THE CASTING OF CROWNS, the heroine, Carissa embodies this same purpose of bringing others into a loving relationship with Jesus.  Follow Carissa and her friends as they wade deeper into the dark, threatening New World Order, seeking to save souls and learning to trust God.

BLESSINGS FROM CHRIST

A star appears

in evening light,

steady and strong.

It guides the seeker of

heavenly mysteries,

prone to accept

deep spiritual blessings

from Christ our Savior.

Through our prayers,

Christ alone, opens our hearts

to receive His grace.

Blessings He showers upon

His people,

holy and true, they remain

honored

to be His witnesses.

The power of Christ

in the Bethlehem stable

remains very clear today.

For we know He grew up,

taught by Mary,

the workings of God.

He labored with Joseph

as carpenter’s apprentice,

not seeking wealth.

For His Kingdom was not

and is not

of this world.

We welcome

The Bethlehem Christ

in our hearts

as a special infant,

destined to

lead us to holiness

and to our true

home in Heaven with Him.

O come let us adore

the Christ Child.

May the Lord bless you this Christmas

                                          and throughout the New Year.

Betsy

STANDING WITH THE KING OF GLORY

Oh hopeless sight

Under cold, gray sky

dead and decaying

knarled tree branches reach heaven-ward

Heaven’s gate reflects light

Many will attempt to enter

naked and knarled

without robes of white linen

These souls were misinformed

God’s home is shut to sinners

Who can enter?

One leaning not

on one’s own understanding

but on Jesus

He is wise; we are

foolish in our own

reasoning

Rest on His leading

Show Him you love Him—

Obey the Ten Commandments

Claim His sacrifice on Calvary

Repent and seek after holiness

not the world’s pleasures

Prepare to stand

 in God’s presence

The gate to heaven

will open only for those

who follow Jesus Christ

and who know Him intimately

One can approach the throne

of God, with other

humble saints

clothed in His robe of righteousness

prepared for a permanent stay

with Him

the King of Glory

WHO KNOWS THE TIME

Wars rage

Famines scourge the land

Leaving suffering, dying infants

Our world seems

Weakened by Satan’s plans

To destroy all innocent babes

Preying on the unprotected

He points to God

As the source of suffering

The originator of a failed government

He claims

It’s time to stand up for God

Reckon who’s right or wrong

Ignore the one who

Accuses the saints

Day and night

Walk with Jesus

Secure in knowing

He’s in charge

The time will come

Unknown to all

He’ll step out of heaven

Destined for earth

Accompanied by His holy angels

With His reward in hand

He calls His faithful home

The dead in Christ will rise first

Meeting Him in the air

Those who walk with Him

Are drawn up next

Destination heaven

Where no suffering

Illness nor death occur

And God will wipe all tears

From the eyes

Of those who suffered

We know not the time

But know it is near

For all the signs scream

Christ’s coming is soon

Even at the door

Prepare for the Lord

Humbly giving Him reign

He wants to take you home

FULFILLMENT OF GOD’S PROMISE

You are beautiful
For your triumph over death
Your heart has clung
To our Lord and Creator

You’ve run the race
With the end in mind
Reunion with the holy
Ransomed by His sacrifice
A fulfillment of His promise

You will see Him face to face
Kneel and worship
With song and praise
Rising from your lips
In acknowledgement
Of your fervent loyalty

Isn’t this what you want
A deep response to your Creator’s
Beckoning love song
Woven through the hearts of all
As a tapestry made more beautiful
By the Second Coming of
Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ

HOPE FOR A FALLEN WORLD

My friend is dying
Lord, what did he ever do
To deserve prolonged suffering?
My mind cannot grasp a reason
Other than our human condition
Deceived by Satan
Into receiving sinful natures
A scourge on humankind
All destined to die
And many, untimely deaths
Like my friend
Young yet,
Formerly bright
Struck down by Huntingtons
A cruel disease

What can help to transform
Our world of destruction?
Hearts bound to Jesus’ heart
Ready to give rather than receive
Functioning as a cradle for grieving
Embracing vulnerable souls
Leading them to the Great Healer

What smooths jagged emotions
Left by a legacy of sin?
Lifts hopes for redemption?

Grace from God
Flowing to sinners
Finding an anchor in faith
In Jesus’ perfect sacrifice

Looking forward
To an everlasting home
Standing in His presence
Casting our crowns at His feet
The Lord of the universe
Our healing balm

RETURN TO GOD

How can she reach golden gate
Lifted up, leading to His throne?
Can she be launched
As a rocket through heavily polluted sky?

Dare she dream fly
As a trumpeter swan
Soaring over waters so expansive
She may not reach shore

As struggling polar bears
Swim expanses
Seeking food
Only to drown

Or does she ride
Aloft cumulus cloud
On warming Spring day
Lingering

Chased by wayward twister
Wrecking homes and insecure lives
Adding more havoc
To nature gone wild

Newlywed couple grieves
Their newborn waiting no longer
To be elected, crowning himself king
Now crushed amid destruction

Lives shattered because of sin
And a nation’s sins
Trading time to heal
For rebellion

America, return to God
Fall on your knees in repentance
Before your Creator
For you have not honored His authority

All Ten Commandments
You’ve thrown down
Trampled on
Disregarded

He will bless you on your return
Carry you on eagle’s wings
Through open golden gate
Before His throne of honor

DISCOVERING THE KING

I am not my own
I was bought with a price
Paid by Jesus on Calvary
He died not that we may sin
As our fallen natures incline us to
Asking for forgiveness
With the insincere hearts we’ve molded
Desiring cleansing
No.
He died that we might be with Him
Forever.
He bids us now draw near to Him
Turn from our sins after seeking His face
Learn humility taught at Calvary
To do the Father’s will
Learn dedication exhibited in His life
To follow, serving Him alone
Know His holiness
Become transformed in His likeness
Testify of Jesus
Drawing souls before His throne
There discovering a King
Who fulfills all our needs
Giving us certain hope of life everlasting
He who conquered sin and death
Through His perfect life and resurrection
Cling to Him
He who comes soon in the glory of a King
To take us home to be with Him forever
Amen.

PROMISES FROM GOD

I’d like to share with you a few of my favorite Bible promises pertaining to everlasting life for God’s faithful.

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord” (1 Thess 4:16,17).

“And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever” (Dan 12:3).

“Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out” (Rev 3:12).

The Bible is filled with many beautiful promises pertaining to blessings God will bestow on us in our earthly lives, as well. Do you have a favorite promise of God found in the Bible? Feel free to share.

HE IS FAITHFUL

God promised throughout the Old Testament He would send a Savior who would ultimately crush Satan and free His people from the result of sin — eternal death. With the birth of Jesus Christ this promise began its fulfillment. “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11).

The Bible makes it clear salvation is only through Christ. “That by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:10,12).

If we sin, we can claim God’s promise: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

The cleansing of sin is made possible only by the spilled blood of our Savior in death, a death we deserve. “For the wages of sin is death” (Rom 6:23).

We can come to Jesus in our battle with sin with confidence He relates: “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb 4:14-16).

Jesus reveals God’s plan for those who accept His grace: “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:2,3). What a wonderful promise of hope our Lord extends to us.

In the book of Revelation, the apostle John, detained on the island of Patmos, writes what Jesus Christ reveals to him will occur in the life hereafter: “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things have passed away” (Rev 21:4). What a beautiful promise for those who reciprocate the Lord’s faithfulness.
